Tiberious Bara is the elected and sitting President of MACAUS
Mr. Bara embraced voluntary service as a young student and while in college, served as Secretary General and later President of the College Students’ Board. He became the Pioneer Chairman/President of MACAUS in 2004 and played a leading role in its establishment. Mr. Bara continued to play instrumental voluntary roles in community efforts while in South Sudan. He was elected to the Presidency in November 2022 with a commitment to take MACAUS to new levels and steer it to fulfil the mission and objectives upon which it was founded.
Mr. Bara holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. (Hons.) Degree in Agricultural Science and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA). He began his career as an “Assistant Research Scientist” at the Agricultural Research Corporation (ARC) in Wad Medani, Sudan. He moved on to the role of “Teaching Assistant” at the University of Juba, and a “Teacher” at an International School in Khartoum. Mr. Bara left the Sudan for Egypt during the civil conflict and found an opportunity to resettle in the United States. While in Egypt, he worked as a volunteer teacher with the joint Relief Ministry (JRM), an agency that supported refugees from the Horn of Africa. He also got a teaching employment with the International Language and Computer Institute in Egypt.
In the States, Tiberious worked for LightPath Technologies, Inc. in Albuquerque, NM while pursuing his Master’s Degree, before he relocated to Northern Virginia, where he initially got engaged in contract jobs with federal contractors, and later joined the Bank of America as a “Personal Banker/Relationships Manager.” He recently served as an assistant manager for Samsonite Corporate Stores.
Mr. Bara brings a wealth of experience to the MACAUS platform from his engagement in international development for over seven years as full-time staff and on consultancy. While in South Sudan, he served as a “National Project Coordinator” with FAO on secondment to head the establishment and operations of the Food Security Technical Secretariate (FSTS), the first and only Food security Information System established in South Sudan. Bara also worked with the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), as a “Land and Natural Resource Rights Officer” on a project that aimed at ensuring citizens’ right of access to land and natural resources, creating awareness and transparency in resource governance, providing technical support to the Land Commission, and empowering civil society and national media institutions for effective advocacy and reporting on resource governance. Bara went on to work as a “National Reintegration Coordinator” with UNDP, and as a “National Project Coordinator” with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Juba, South Sudan.
